MICA Announces New Board Members

Board of Directors Elected to the Mercer Island Center for the Arts

MERCER ISLAND, WA — Mercer Island Center for the Arts (MICA) is pleased to announce the election of three community leaders, who have recently joined MICA’s Board of Directors.  Directors and Officers are elected for a one year term.  New Directors include:

Bernal GoldbergBernel Goldberg:  Mr. Goldberg focuses his legal practice on the non-profit world, and proudly serves as General Counsel to the Seattle Symphony Orchestra.  Bernel lives on Mercer Island with his wife Gloria and three boys: Aryel, who just graduated as Valedictorian of Northwest Yeshiva High School; Refael, going into his sophomore year at MIHS and playing football; and 12-year-old Eliad, entering 8th grade at Islander Middle School.  Also on the team are Toby (12 pound Havanese dog), Petunia & Taladoon (ducks) and Gadget & Luna (chickens).

Virl HillVirl Z. Hill:  A longtime media industry veteran, Mr. Hill leads the strategic partnership team in entertainment, autos and sports for Microsoft’s Windows & Devices Group. Previously, he was CEO of Blade Games World and held leadership roles at Rhapsody, RealNetworks and The Walt Disney Company. Virl has served on the boards of Youth Theatre Northwest, Mercer Island Youth Soccer Association and two theatre companies in Los Angeles. He is a member of The Television Academy and The Recording Academy. Virl and his wife Nancy have lived on Mercer Island for 17 years.  They are the parents of three boys who have all been active in Mercer Island sports, music and arts programs: Ryan, a freshman at Haverford College, and Brandon and Connor, freshmen at Mercer Island High School.

Vijay VasheeVijay Vashee:  Mr. Vashee joined Microsoft in 1982 as “Employee 160” where he took on many roles that included general manager for PowerPoint and Project and with his teams made them Number 1.

Vijay has a particular commitment to children. As he puts it simply, “Invest in youth, they enable change to happen faster.” As a strong supporter for local programs directed toward children, he feels personally fulfilled by this commitment because he believes that “the more one gives, the more one receives. Do this without expectations.”  He also helped start a Seattle chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), an organization that has helped many local startups. Vijay and Sita are longtime Mercer Island residents and are strong supporters of the arts and community programs serving on various boards locally.
